The Industrial Revolution moved human society away from traditional building and into the modern construction industry. Cheap labor and the belief that there was an endless supply for energy only reinforced this movement. 250 years later we are seeing the negative effects in our local economies, our social structures, our health and our environment. Scientists tell us that if we continue down this road, the consequences for human beings, other life forms, and the planet will be catastrophic.
There is an alternative: TBMS creates buildings that are healthy for people and the environment, using regionally produced building products that create regional economic development. Traditional building systems also build healthy social structures. This approach is not new to humans. In fact this approach is what started human civilization. We have just forgotten or lost it over the past 250 years.
In urban and rural settings, traditional building materials and systems are transforming how we build, and helping to set communities on a finically sustainable road. Dollars that are spent locally not only stay in the community, they create 3 more dollars in local wealth, by creating new jobs and businesses. In contrast, more than half of the dollars paid to non-locally owned corporations leave the community immediately.
Our future is truly in our past. We just have to be brave enough to go back and get it. Then we can apply the technology of the 21st century with the building materials that created human civilization.
